The Obsidian Heart Chronicles: Exodus

A Shadow Over the Septennial Remembrance

Even the most radiant light casts a shadow.

Seven hundred years have passed since the exiles of Lámúrú found sanctuary on the island of Kúmára-Yám. What was once a resilient band of survivors has evolved into the prosperous, technologically unparalleled Kingdom of Yám. Guided by the deep celestial reverence of the Ténzúri, they have built a civilization that far surpasses any other of its time.

But on the eve of the septennial remembrance—a sacred celebration of their founding—a nameless dread settles over the kingdom. A creeping darkness confounds both their brilliant scientific minds and their ancient stellar wisdom. To save their people, a new generation of leaders must grapple with a terrifying reality: the ultimate test of their civilization is not their ability to build, but their capacity to endure when every tool is stripped away.

Dramatis Personae

Zubanu-Mek

Premier of the Kingdom of Yám

A direct descendant of Níka Kórá, Zubanu-Mek earned his imposing authority not through lineage, but in the mud—defending outer settlements during famines and sandstorms. Now serving as Premier, his intelligent brown eyes carry the heavy burden of a looming, shapeless crisis, haunted by the ghosts of those he could not save in the past.

Namtaré

Commander-in-Chief

A fierce descendant of Zámé-Kwárá who rose through the elite ranks via brilliant tactical intellect. Sworn to protect the Magaalo’s culture, history, and scientific knowledge, she enforces rigorous ethical standards on the use of Yámmite technology. As the shadow falls, she looks to the ancient teachings of the stars for guidance, even when the stars go silent.

Tembira

Chief Scientist

The youngest Chief Scientist in Yám’s history, Tembira is a practical problem-solver who can craft miracles from salvaged parts in the Science Complex. Carrying the hope of a new generation, her unwavering faith in technology to save her people frequently puts her at odds with Commander Namtaré’s reliance on ancient lore.

Artifacts & Lore

Kúmára-Yám
An island sanctuary viewed as a gift from the stars. Over seven centuries, it has been transformed by the Yámmites into a utopian hub of breathtaking technology, governed by strict social harmony and an unbreakable reverence for the cosmos.

The Septennial Remembrance
A joyous, vital celebration meant to honor the founding of their new home. This year, the feasts and dancing are hollow, replaced by a suffocating, atmospheric dread that no scientific instrument in the kingdom can detect or explain.

"We must find a way to honor the truth and still give them something to hold. A celebration that does not lie to them but does not abandon them to their fear."
— TEMBIRA, CHIEF SCIENTIST
